Shutters being pulled down on business hopes

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has said that the voices of business owners on the Lisburn Road is not being listened to carefully enough and that Belfast City Council needs to act quickly to reverse economic problems being faced by businesses in the area. The Balmoral Sinn Féin representative was speaking after, last weekend, canvassing the Lisburn Road area and distributing invites to the Party's Business Breakfast in the Europa Hotel on 3 March where it is hoped that we will get feedback to shape the Sinn Féin Economic Agenda for the area. South Belfast Sinn Féin hold 'Pitches strategy' consultation meeting

South Belfast Sinn Féin representatives Alex Maskey MLA, Cllr. Deirdre Hargey (Laganbank) and Máirtín Ó Muilleoir (Balmoral) last week held a consultation meeting representatives of a number of sporting organisations from throughout South Belfast in order to inform Sinn Féin's position on Belfast City Council's pitches strategy. The meeting, organised by South Belfast Sinn Féin and chaired by Alex Maskey MLA, was held in St Bride's Hall and took place on Wednesday 16th February. Read full article

Maskey responds to Draft Budget Consultation

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said that Sinn Féin has today submitted a response to the consultation on the north's Draft Budget. The South Belfast MLA outlined Sinn Féin's view that there can be a 'Better Way' and that with the onset of Tory cuts, the onus was on the Assembly and Executive to take the lead in generating additional revenues, achieving fiscal and economic levers as well as working together to achieve the best deal for frontline services and those most vulnerable in our society. Maskey calls on Minister to remove Economy 7 heating systems

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said that the Minister for Social Development Alex Attwood must to remove all Economy 7 heating systems from social housing dwellings in South Belfast. The South Belfast MLA was speaking after submitting a written question to the Minister asking plans his Department had to replace Economy 7 heating systems within the social housing stock. Belfast City council must put people before profit - Hargey

Laganbank Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Hargey has said that Belfast City Council must put people before profit. Cllr. Hargey was speaking after, despite opposition from Sinn Féin councillors, Belfast City Council voted to sell a plot of vacant land at McClure Street to the highest bidder, free of restrictions to future use. Sinn Féin have long opposed this move, arguing that such as sale is not in the interests of those who live in the surrounding area. Read full article

Sinn Féin Balmoral representative Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has urged Belfast City Council to back a proposal to allocate £12,500 of a £25,000 underspend in the city development budget to the Lisburn Road Business Association to help retailers battle the worst recession in living memory. Minister praised as free school meals to reach an extra 10,000 children

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has praised the Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane's, commitment to the free school meals program after the Minister confirmed to him that the scheme is to be extended to include an estimated 10,000 extra nursery and primary school children over the next four years. Hargey comments as Belfast City Council strikes rate

At a special convened Council meeting held on Tuesday night to deal with the issue of striking the rates for Belfast City Council the new fixed rate was agreed at 2.95%. This rate comes into effect in the new financial year in April. Sinn Féin councillors at Belfast City Hall were one of the political parties involved that helped strike the rate. Read full article

The launch of the campaign, which is being run to ensure that people with disfigurements of any kind are treated fairly and equally irrespective of their facial appearance, was sponsored at Stormont yesterday by Alex Maskey.
