Maskey appeals for people to shape the future of South Belfast's Holyland area

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has appealed for people to participate in the consultation clinics organised as part of the Belfast City Council study sponsored study aimed at finding long-term solutions to the problems facing the Holyland and wider University area. Alex Maskey was speaking after this week attending the Holyland stakeholders group meeting where a presentation was made by the consultants tasked with drawing up a report and recommendations in relation to the area. Sinn Féin joins with local community to object to private apartments in Short Strand

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile will, this Tuesday, attend Belfast City Council's Town Planning Committee meeting along with a local resident and representatives of St Matthew's Housing Association and the Short Strand Partnership to voice their objections to proposals to build 32 private, high-rise apartments on vacant land on the Mountpottinger Road. East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has hit out the Parades Commission for capitulating to threats by the Black Preceptory to hold a mass mobilisation and allowing this afternoon's parade past the Short Strand area to go ahead. Far too early for passenger limits at City Airport to be removed - Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin's east Belfast Representative Niall Ó Donnghaile welcomed the move by the Assembly's Environment Committee to urge Environment Minister Edwin Poots to defer a decision on removing the limit of sales until the inquiry into the runway extension is completed. Mr Ó Donnghaile said that the ultimate decision on this matter will be taken by the Minister Edwin Poots but that he "must take on board the many legitimate concerns expressed in relation to both the cap on seats for sale and the proposed runway extension." Homeowners must be protected from negative equity as a result of vesting by DSD

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has submitted a private member's motion to the Assembly calling on the Social Development Minister and the Minister for Finance and Personnel to bring forward proposals to ensure that homeowners living in areas that are due to be re-developed by the Department of Social Development will be protected from negative equity and increased debt following the vesting of land. Concern over tenancy terminations highlighted

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has urged anyone receiving notice from their landlord that their tenancy is being terminated to seek advice immediately, either by contacting Sinn Féin or the Housing Rights Advice Centre.
