Sinn Féin anti-racism/sectarianism motion receives Assembly support

A Sinn Féin motion calling for unequivocal leadership in the face of sectarian and racist attacks was yesterday debated on the floor of the Assembly, and received cross-party support. The motion was tabled by south Belfast MLA Alex Maskey, Equality and Human rights spokesperson Martina Anderson MLA and spokesperson on Ethnic Minorities Jennifer McCann MLA. Read full article

Parker pleased that Neighbourhood policing targets being met in South Belfast

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative and member of the South Belfast DPP Vincent Parker has said that he is pleased that the PSNI in South Belfast are meeting the targets set by the Policing Board for the amount of time that members of Neighbourhood Policing Teams should spend carrying out neighbourhood duties, but added that he looks forward to the targets being set at a higher rate in the future. PSNI have much work to do to win community confidence in East Belfast

MASKEY WELCOMES ASSURANCES ON APPLICATION OF A LEVEL STUDENTS TO UNIVERSITIES IN THE SOUTH

South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed the announcement from Education Minister Caitríona Ruane that she has received assurances that students from the North of Ireland will not be disadvantaged in applying to universities in the South of Ireland. Following the decision of the Central Applications Office (CAO) in the South to proceed with a two stage process that would see first round offers of university places being made to Leaving Certificate students two days before the issue of A level results in the North, the Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane MLA, has secured important assurances from Minister for Education and Science, Batt O'Keeffe TD. Parker urges Household Fuel Payment Scheme uptake

de Brún to give evidence to Assembly Climate Change Inquiry

Sinn Fein MEP Bairbre de Brún will give evidence today, Thursday 11th June, to the Climate Change Inquiry being carried out by the Assembly Environment Committee. Ms de Brún has been a member of the European Parliament Temporary Committee on Climate Change, and was part of the delegation to the UN Climate Change talks in Poznan, Poland earlier this year. She has also been a member of the European Parliament Environment Committee. Read full article

Ó Donnghaile welcomes East Belfast traffic signal modifications
