Maskey officially opens Roseville House family fun-day

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has commended the work being done by all of the staff at Roseville House to help homeless families and has pledged his support to the hostel. Alex Maskey was speaking as he, this afternoon, officially opened a family fun-day held at Roseville House centre homeless families. The fun-day was organised to mark European Neighbours' Day. Mobile phone company O2 must respect the Irish Language - Ó Donnghaile

Maskey discusses Policing with UN/Iraqi mission

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey was one of a number of Policing Board members who recently met with a delegation from the UN/Iraqi mission to as part of a briefing on the transformation and progress in policing in the North of Ireland. The delegation was made up of Iraqi MPs and politicians from the Kirkuk provincial administration alongside United Nation officials. Read full article

Maskey calls upon Social Development Minister to deliver on promises to Market community

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said that, despite her statements to the contrary, he does not believe that Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie is committed to Environmental Improvement Schemes in the Market area of south Belfast. Worries over declining income for pensioners

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has said it is vital pensioners get all the benefits they are entitled to after the Pensions Policy Institute said many may not have sufficient resources to cover the additional costs of later life, such as disability, being widowed or needing long-term care. Commission's claim that 'Equality must wait' is unacceptable

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker has called for the Equality Commission to retract comments suggesting that the promotion of equality is 'dependent' on economic prosperity. In written evidence before the OFMDFM Assembly oversight committee, the Equality Commission claimed that "economic prosperity and equality of opportunity are mutually interdependent". Welcome for designation of 'specialist school' in South Belfast

Balmoral Sinn Féin Representative Vincent Parker has welcomed the news that South Belfast's Victoria College, in Cranmore Park, has been designated as a special school, taking effect from September 2009. Following the assessment by the independent panel, ten schools were assessed as meeting in full the criteria required for specialist school designation. Six of these had specialisms in STEM-related areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Read full article
