Rates Crisis demands return of Executive

Unionists politicians must show leadership to tackle sectarian intimidation in Ballynafeigh

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has said that if areas in South Belfast are to be truly regarded as 'mixed' areas then unionists need to show political leadership and face up to the sectarian intimidation that is ongoing in the area. Integrated Education suffering in the absence of a local Assembly

New research published independently by Millward Brown Ulster revealed that 80% of the people surveyed would like to see their MP, MLA or local councillor support Integrated Education in the North. Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Stiofan Long has responded to a statement issued by the NI Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) in relation to new research published independently by Millward Brown Ulster, which stated that respondents favoured those politicians, and parties that supported Integrated Education. DUP stance on sharing power only issue to be resolved

Commenting on speculation that the two governments are planning fresh political talks outside Ireland in early October Sinn Féin Assembly member Alex Maskey today said that the governments needed to focus their attention on the only remaining blockage to restored institutions, the failure of the DUP to embrace power sharing. Orange Order survey shows how far SDLP have drifted from the nationalist agenda

Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Stiofan Long today said that the response to a survey of 300 members of the Orange Order which claims that 5.4% of those who responded were likely to vote the SDLP and that 13.5% would possibly give the SDLP their second preference vote shows how far that SDLP have drifted from a nationalist agenda. Concern at Exploitation of Migrant Workers

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has voiced concern about the exploitation of migrant workers after it was revealed that of 86 Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) inspected by the Housing Executive in Belfast between Jan and August 2003, 73 required Article 80 notices requiring the landlord to upgrade the dwelling to the correct standard, and demanded more resources to ensure the immediate registration of all HMOs. General welcome for new electoral registration proposals

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó'Donnghaile today welcomed the move by the Electoral Office to remove the annual registration requirement and move to a ten year system. Housing Executive and DSD must act on Short Strand Housing study findings

East Belfast Sinn Féin representative Niall Ó'Donnghaile has called upon the Housing Executive and the Department for Social Development (DSD) to act on the findings of a study carried out by 'St Matthew's Housing Association'. The study, commissioned by the Housing Association, and launched earlier in the year, show that the official housing waiting lists for the area do not accurately reflect the housing need. Maskey hits out at 'profit driven' McClure Street decision

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has hit out at this mornings decision by Belfast City Council's Park committee to sell off a plot of vacant land at McClure Street to the highest bidder. Sinn Féin had lobbied for the land to be designated for social housing and had also argued that any developments on the land needed to be sensitive to the needs of an interface area. Survey highlights inadequate Government response to Lower Ormeau Flooding

South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has demanded to know why, almost nine months since homes where flooded on the Lower Ormeau Road, residents are still waiting for repairs to be carried out to their homes and to date nobody has been held responsible for the flooding and no pre-emptive measures have been put in place to ensure that this never happens again. Cllr. Maskey was speaking after figures from a survey carried out by Party activists highlighted a number of failures and inadequacies in the Government's reaction to the flooding and its aftermath.
