Refusal to expand bus lanes can only result in more pollution

Balmoral Sinn Fein representative Stiofan Long, speaking after a recent meeting with Friends of the Earth, has said that the failure to expand 'Quality Bus Corridors' along the Lisburn and Malone Road's, particularly with the ongoing work on the Westlink, can only result in increased pollution in the area. Integrated Policy Required to Tackle HMO Issue

Cllr. Alex Maskey MLA and local community worker Deirdre Hargey last night briefed the South Belfast Sinn Fein Comhairle Ceantair (Area Executive) on a recent meeting they had with representatives of the Housing Executive at which they discussed the issue of Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO's). Speaking after the briefing Alex Maskey reiterated his call for the Housing Executive and Department of Social Development to produce an integrated policy framework to deal with the HMO issue. Markets community must not be alienated by further Gasworks development

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey, speaking about proposals to extend the Gasworks site to Rafael Street has said that the local community must not be alienated from a decision making process which will have a large effect on their daily lives and the sustainability of their community. Cllr. Maskey was speaking after a meeting with Belfast City Council Developers and Development Consultants in relation to the Gasworks site. Read full article

Ring Road Proposals the focus of Friends of the Earth meeting

A South Belfast Sinn Fein delegation, Cllr. Alex Maskey MLA and Balmoral representative Stiofan Long, today met with 'Friends of the Earth' to discuss Roads Service proposals for a Belfast City Centre Ring Road (which would see the widening of Cromac Street, the widening of the Cromac Street/Ormeau Road junction and the replacing of Ormeau Avenue with 'Bankmore Link') and the effects that increasing traffic caused by the Westlink development is having on South Belfast. Direct Rule Minister Reshuffle will not deter Sinn Fein on Planning

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey and Balmoral Sinn Fein representative Stiofan Long has said that the fact that although Jeff Rooker has been transferred from his post as British Direct Rule Minister here they still expect to hold a meeting with his replacement, David Cairns, to call for a moratorium on the building of apartment complexes in the South Belfast area. Sinn Fein welcomes move by Dublin Government on payment to Centenarians north of the border

Balmoral Sinn Fein representative Stiofan Long has today welcomed the Irish Government's move to extend payments of the Centenarian's bounty to any Irish citizen born on the whole island of Ireland. Sinn Fein raised the issue in the Dáil this afternoon. During the course of his response the Taoiseach said, "Under the new arrangements, payment of the bounty, which amounts to €2,500, will be extended in respect of any Irish citizen who was born on the island of Ireland, regardless of where he or she may currently reside." MASKEY HITS OUT AS CARS VANDALISED

Sinn Fein hits out at South Belfast Sectarian attack

Balmoral Sinn Fein representative Stiofan Long has hit out at those involved in a sectarian assault in the Finaghy area over the bank holiday weekend. The assault, which left a 13 year old Protestant child badly beaten and shaken, has caused an increase in tensions in the area. Read full article
