Maskey cautiously welcomes commitment to flood victims

DUP letting NIO off the hook on Water Charges

Balmoral Sinn Fein representative Stiofan Long has accused the DUP of letting the British government off the hook by refusing to engage to get the political institutions back up and running saying, "It is only through a functioning Assembly with accountable local ministers that the best interests of people here will be put ahead of the interests of Whitehall mandarins". Lower Ormeau flooding liability issue must be dealt with immediately

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has written to the Department for Regional Development to urge them to ensure that the issue of liability is dealt with immediately in relation to the recent flooding of homes on the Lower Ormeau Road saying, "This is a vitally important question given that the issue of compensation for residents cannot be resolved until this issue is dealt with. It is unacceptable that, two weeks before Christmas, residents are facing considerable facing hardship". Read full article

Maskey welcomes committment to deal with dangerous building

South Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Alex Maskey has welcomed a commitment from Belfast City Council that enforcement action will be taken against the owner of the derelict building formally known as 'Farrell's Bar' on Belfast's Lower Ormeau Road saying "I look forward to speedy action being taken to remove this unsightly premises from the Ormeau Road and to help improve the general environment in the area".
